Introducing the all new Academic Staff Induction. 

In November 2019 we surveyed staff to find out what academic staff needed in an induction, specifically designed for them. 

The new Academic Staff Induction is an easy to use, one-stop-shop to find everything you need to get you, and your colleagues, started with teaching at OP, including: 

  • Teacher training 
  • Academic processes 
  • Teaching support 
  • Programme and course design and development 
  • Teaching evaluations 
  • Research 
  • Useful forms, templates and resources 
  • Glossary and acronyms 
  • Frequently asked questions 

Each section includes who and where to go to for support, direct links to relevant resources and information, relevant policies, templates and forms. 

New staff

All new staff are recommended to complete the Academic Staff Induction in addition to their general OP Staff Induction. Please note: if you started at OP in early 2020, you won’t need to complete the Tertiary Teaching Self-Assessment, if you’ve already had a discussion with your GDTE Programme Co-ordinator. Your Academic Capability Partner will be in touch soon to guide you through the rest of this academic induction. 

Existing staff

All existing staff are encouraged to review this induction to find out if there are any gaps in their knowledge of teaching at OP. Contact your Academic Capability Partner if you’d like some guidance through this academic induction. 

Completion progress

We encourage academic staff to enrol in the associated Completion Progress site on Moodle, where your Head of College and/or Programme Leader can track your progress and provide support where you need it.

Feedback and evaluation 

A follow up survey will be conducted at the end of 2020 to ensure we’ve met your needs, but if you can suggest or recommend any additions to this Academic Staff Induction, please do not hesitate to send these to Rachel Cash for inclusion.
