Hands-on, real world experience
We are a leader in high-quality, career-focused education and employers love our highly capable, motivated and confident graduates. Our hands-on approach to learning ensures that our graduates are work- and world-ready. They care about the community, are well-informed and are driven to make a difference.
Most of our programmes offer hands-on experience in some form. We have extensive training facilities for study options such as Automotive (training workshop and garage), Cookery and Culinary Arts (training kitchens, café and restaurant), Nursing (simulation suite), Hairdressing (training salon) and Massage Therapy (training clinic) with a lot of these options being open to the public so you can gain real client experience.
We also help you to make sense of the theory you have learned in class by connecting it to practice. Our strong and wide-ranging industry connections and contacts enable us to facilitate internships and project partnerships as well as offering work experience and apprenticeship opportunities.
Networks and partnerships
Otago Polytechnic is part of many national and international networks, including the Cumulus Association (Design) and the Metro Group (Engineering).
International partnerships are at the heart of our philosophy for learning and growth. Our relationships with international institutions range from informal friendships to formalised study abroad and exchange agreements, supporting our community and enriching the variety of experiences available to our learners.
