We’re specialists in career-focused education. Our class sizes are small and study is focused on practical, applied learning. Many of our lecturers have extensive experience in their professional field and are actively involved in their research community so you will benefit from their expertise and up-to-date industry knowledge.    

  • All of our teaching staff hold, or are working towards, the Graduate Diploma in Tertiary Education (Level 7) – a recognised tertiary teaching qualification.
  • In the past eight years, 17 of our teachers have won Ako Aotearoa Tertiary Teaching Excellence Awards spanning study areas including Nursing, Culinary Arts, Communication Design, Sport and Adventure, Engineering and Construction.
  • Our qualification completion rate is amongst the best in our sector in New Zealand.
  • Our staff-student interactions, educational experiences and supportive learning environment came top in a recent Australasian study survey!

 

Professor Margo Barton

Programme Manager – Bachelor of Design (Fashion)

Professor Margo Barton has completed a PhD in millinery and her enthusiasm for fashion education is palpable. In 2010, Margo was invited to join the judging panel for the Mittelmoda Awards – a prestigious international competition for emerging fashion designers.

 

Professor Richard Mitchell

Food Design Institute

“I realise that everyone brings their own content and own experiences of the world to a classroom and my job is simply to unlock their potential.”

Professor Richard Mitchell holds a PhD in wine consumer behaviour and is on the editorial panel for the International Journal of Food Design and the advisory panel for ConversatioNZ, an industry-led hospitality panel. He has also published over 140 pieces of research focusing on food, wine, consumer behaviour and tourism.
