Community Project – Charity Boxes
As part of their Managing Projects course, year one New Zealand Diploma of Business/Bachelor of Applied Management students have been tasked with supporting a local charity by collating eight boxes of donated items.
At the start of their course, small project teams were formed, and each group was tasked with selecting and contacting a local charity to understand its specific needs/requirements.
Each team worked collaboratively during the eight weeks of the course to plan, and then source and assemble at least eight boxes of donated goods (and without using their personal funds or a set budget!).
This allowed the students to be creative and resourceful, experience real-world project management and apply the theory they learned in class, building their knowledge and understanding. Some examples of this were stakeholder management and communication, risk assessment, managing constraints and limitations, and writing a professional project plan.
Each student also got to experience being a Project Manager by rotating the role across their team; this enabled them to also build on their project management leadership skills.
This showcase highlights not only the students project management skills, but also their commitment to making a meaningful difference to the local community.
