Is my lease for 52 weeks?

We offer accommodation agreements for multiple terms (40-week, 41-week, semester one, semester two).

Are there any single-sex or non-drinking floors?

We do our very best to accommodation requests for single-sex or non-drinking living quarters. We will provide single sex apartments to those who request it  

If I didn’t get an offer in the first round what can I do and are there additional offer dates I should know?

We automatically add you to our waitlist if we are unable to offer you a place in the first round of offers.  We will continue to send offers as rooms become available, in general we do expect turnover of applications as people change their mind and decline offers.Email accommodation@op.ac.nz to let us know if you are still keen.

When is the CCRF Due?

As soon as possible. If you wish to have your application considered in the first round of offers (mid-September), your application will need to be complete (including your CCRF) by the end of August. 

What is a CCRF?

<p>CCRF stands for Common Confidential Reference Form. This is a refence completed by a teacher, Dean, Careers Advisor or Principal from your school. If you are applying for the student village you need to request a CCRF via the <a class="Hyperlink SCXW139564932 BCX0" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="https://ccrf.dotnous.co.nz/Account/Login.cshtml" target="_blank">NZCCRF</a></p>

When are applications due?

We do not have an official closing dateIf you wish to have your application considered in the first round of offers (mid-September), your application will need to be complete (including your Common Confidential Reference Form — CCRF) by the end of August.  

Do I need to write a cover letter?

No, you don’t need to submit a cover letter as a part of your application.

I have dietary requirements can these be catered for?

We can cater for most dietary requirements.  Please email accommodation@op.ac.nz if you wish to check.

Do we get to join in with the Uni halls for their intercollege competitions?

Yes!

Is there any extra study support provided?

Yes, we have an academic advisor come each week as well as weekly tutorial support. We have quiet hours set, events around busy times of semester to support healthy study habits, We deliver study packs to support you during busy study times.

After acceptance FAQs

Can I have visitors?

Yes, although there are times that visitors will be restricted like first two weeks of the year and during assessment/exam periods. 

What do I do if I accepted a place but changed my mind?

<p>You can cancel your agreement through the application portal with certain conditions prior to the withdrawal date in your Residential Agreement. Please check your agreement for terms and conditions. Please ensure that your email <a class="Hyperlink SCXW42852017 BCX0" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="mailto:accommodation@op.ac.nz" target="_blank">accommodation@op.ac.nz</a> to advise also.</p>

What if my course start date is earlier than the move in date?

Please contact accommodation@op.ac.nz as early arrivals can be arranged if your course starts earlier than move in date.

When can I move in?

Move in day for 2024 is 10 February.

When are the first offers made?

The first round of offers will be made in mid-September. 

What activities, sports or other social events are planned during the year?

We run events throughout the whole year. During move in week we design a programme of events to help residents connect and build friendships. We have friendly inter-college competitions between other University halls which could range from netball, volleyball basketball and football. For those who aren’t into sports they run film, cultural, gaming, debate competitions and a range of other things. We at the hall aim to host a range of events from pool and table tennis competitions, quiz, movie, formal dinner and bingo nights. Arts and craft events and baking. We host larger events such as the annual ball, laser tag and hirer out the local movie theatre for one of the latest block busters. 

Who will do my laundry?

You will do this yourself. There are washing machines and dryers available for you to use. You will need to supply your own laundry powder and basket. 

What happens if I drop out of my study during the year?

You do need to be in full time study to remain in the hall. However, if things have not worked out then you can withdraw. Depending on the circumstances, you may be required to continue paying for your room until a replacement can be found (up to 12 weeks). You will forfeit your bond and resident life fee in this instance  

If I am in an uncatered room can I get catering?

Yes, you can sign up for a variety of meal plans at the office and it can be worked around holidays and placements offsite. 

Can I bring my car?

While there are car parking spaces available, there are only 25. An email will be sent to all new residents is JanuaryYou will need to reply to that email to go into a ballot system and the first 25 to be pulled get the parks. Parking spaces cost $20 per week. 

When do I have to move out?

You would need to move out by your accommodation agreement end date. This varies depending on agreement term applied for (e.g. 40-week, 41-week, semester only agreements).
