Otago Polytechnic supports research by and with Māori and other indigenous cultures.
Ka tautoko a Te Kura Matatini i kā rakahau a te iwi Māori, ki te iwi Māori, me ētahi atu iwi taketake.
Our Kaitohutohu Office has responsibility for ensuring that all Otago Polytechnic research appropriately addresses issues pertaining to Māori in the conduct and outcomes of the research.
Te Rautaki Rakahau Māori (Māori Research Strategy) 2018-2021 outlines Te Kura Matatini ki Otago Polytechnic Framework for Māori Research. This strategy is informed by the Māori Strategic Framework for Otago Polytechnic and the 2018 Memorandum of Understanding between Otago Polytechnic and Kā Papatipu Rnaka. Te Rautaki Rakahau Māori aligns with the Ngi Tahu 2025 Vision and the Otago Polytechnic Strategic Directions. The three key drivers for Māori research are:
- Māori-centred knowledge creation
- Maintaining a Māori-focussed international research culture
- Developing a strong local and national Māori research culture.

Ka tūtika Te Rautaki Rakahau ki te Kāi Tahu 2025 Vision me te Otago Polytechnic Strategic Directions. E toru kā pūtake matua mō kā rakahau Māori:
