Submit your dissertation or thesis

This form is for masters and doctoral students of Otago Polytechnic to submit their research dissertation or thesis.

  1. All dissertations and theses must be publicly available in digital and/or hard copy. This is because your research is a valuable contribution to the body of knowledge in your field.
    1. Use this form to upload your work to our digital repository; and /or
    2. Liaise with your supervisor about the requirements for binding a hard copy and the form to deposit that hard copy in the Robertson Library. We recognise that some theses are not suitable to be published online, for example to protect commercially sensitive information or to avoid breaching copyright for images in the dissertation.
  2. All abstracts of dissertations and theses will be made publicly available online, whether the work is available online or not. This will help people find and apply your research. Abstracts are a summary of your research that serves as an introduction, up to a maximum of 500 words. Use this form to upload your abstract.

Public availability (choose one)

1. Available online

I choose to make my work publicly available online. My work does not, to the best of my knowledge, infringe upon anyone else's copyright.

2. Available in hard copy

I choose to make my work publicly available by depositing a hard copy in the Robertson Library. I acknowledge that binding a hard copy for this purpose is at my own cost, and that the abstract will be made publicly available online.

3. Request redactions

I wish to apply for approval for redaction of parts of my work. (Explain below why your work ought not to be made publicly available in full. Your explanation should include which parts you seek to redact.)

4. Request embargo

I wish to apply for approval for embargo for a period of one to three years. (Explain below why your work ought not to be made publicly available yet. Your explanation should include how long an embargo is sought.)

5. Request exemption

I wish to apply for approval for exemption from making my work publicly available, with only the abstract being made available online. (Explain why below, including why redaction or embargo is not sufficient to address your concerns.)


Please note that requests may be granted only in exceptional circumstances on grounds of commercial sensitivity, sensitive content, publications pending, or other reason consistent with the Official Information Act and the Privacy Act.


  • Sponsorship: I have fulfilled any obligations owed to any organization which may have sponsored or supported this work.
  • Preservation: I agree that OP may, without changing the content, translate the submission to any medium or format for the purpose of preservation. I agree that OP may keep more than one copy of this submission for purposes of security, back-up and preservation.
  • Attribution: I acknowledge that OP will identify my name as the author of the dissertation, and will not make any alteration, other than as allowed by this license, to the work.
