This hands-on certificate will give you a great understanding of the tourism and travel industry. At the same time, it's open entry (which means you don't need any previous academic qualifications) and provides a great taster of what studying at a Polytechnic is all about, preparing you for further diploma- or degree-level study. 

You'll develop your process for researching, your computer skills and your time management skills - whilst gaining confidence through exploring your own personal learning style.  

You'll gain the skills to deliver a quality visitor experience through your knowledge of tourism destinations and will also be able to provide excellent customer service and information advice, and contribute to the overall effectiveness of a tourism business. 

Graduates will be able to work in a variety of roles in the tourism industry, in areas such as customer service and sales, and in frontline, attraction and activity positions.

A change for 2023 enrolments

When you apply to study with Otago Polytechnic in 2023, you will be enrolled with Te Pūkenga, the new national network of vocational and applied education in Aotearoa New Zealand. You will learn in the same way, in the same place, and with the same people. The great news is that this enables us to share skills and knowledge across a network of passionate education providers, to better help you succeed. Enrolling in programmes that start in 2023, means that you will graduate with a Te Pūkenga qualification.
