What You Study
What will I do?
- You will be learning and working at our Ako espresso café and Manaaki training restaurant. These are both open to the public and with support you will be involved with operations and serving customers.
- Prepare and cook café-style food using a variety of methods
- Learn to prepare great café-style espresso coffee, and then serve it to customers in the Ako espresso café
- Learn Front of House restaurant service and put this into practice in the Manaaki training restaurant
- Learn effective customer service and communication techniques, and health and safety requirements.
What could I do next?
- Study the New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 3), the New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service (Level 3) (Café Services) (Bar Services) or go on to do the New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 4) or New Zealand Certificate in Food and Beverage Service (Level 4) (Restaurant Services) with us
- Gain an apprenticeship and complete your chef training or your food and beverage service training on the job
- Get a job in a café or restaurant as barista or kitchen staff.

In most instances, study at OSTC will be fully funded, with no cost to you or secondary school. However, please note that OSTC is only funded for a limited number of places.
Additional places may be offered, however your school will be charged a fee.
