Complex Care pathway

Develop your clinical skills in specific areas of practice  relevant to your current work setting, or possible future areas of practice.

Want to develop your midwifery expertise in an area of complex practice?

Our Complex Care Pathway enables Lead Maternity Care and core midwives to extend their theoretical knowledge and technical skill in any area related to complexity within midwifery care.

It is a specific pathway within the Postgraduate Certificate in Midwifery Practice that you complete over one year.

Complex Care

Duration: One year
Courses in the pathway:

  • MM503610 Midwifery Assessment and Decision Making for Complexity (30 credits)
  • MM503620 Midwifery Practicum for Complexity (15 credits)
  • One elective course from the Postgraduate programme (15 credits)

Step 1: Apply

If you are a returning student, please contact ebsMID@op.ac.nz for a course selection form. If you are a new student, please apply online.

Step 2: Apply for Complex Care postgraduate education funding

Health Workforce New Zealand funds the Complex Care pathway for up to 100 hours' release time for core midwives, or locum cover for LMCs to complete practical placement requirements.
