Short Course
Ceramics Night Class
The Dunedin School of Art at Otago Polytechnic has the largest ceramics department in New Zealand. Benefit from an emphasis on hands-on experimentation in clay-making workshops.
About the course
The techniques we teach assume that students have some previous ceramic experience.
Students can build on existing knowledge by working individually with the tutor at a more advanced level. Some of the skills covered include hand-building techniques, throwing on the wheel, glaze mixing and application, as well as some firing techniques.
The Art School Ceramics Studio is well equipped, providing a safe and sociable working environment. Tools are provided but if you have any clay tools bring them along. Wear old clothes, overalls or an apron and wear covered footwear. You may also want to bring an old towel that can get dirty.
Day and time
Thursday evenings, 6pm-8pm.
Course fees
$240 per term.
Please bring $41 cash with you to the first class - $15 for glaze and $26 for clay (cheapest bag).
Extra glaze materials are available for sale for larger works or to make up special glazes.
However, in most cases, the $15 fee will cover this.
Materials
Tools are provided but if you have any clay tools you may bring them along.
Both clay purchases and the glaze fee need to be paid to the tutor by cash or cheque. There is no EFTPOS.
Tools are provided but if you have any clay tools you may bring them along.
