Pathway options
Pathway and study preparation programmes are designed to help you if you don’t meet the entry requirements for a course you want to study. You will learn beginner skills and gain credits you’ll need to apply for the qualification you want to study.

Get started in design
If you don’t know where and how to begin a creative career, start with our level 4 certificate qualifications. You will learn the basics of design through theory and practice, and feel ready for the next step in your career.
If you have a little experience but want to hone your skills, our level 5 qualifications is a great place to start. It will help you move on to our advanced qualifications or gain confidence for client work.

Study preparation for design courses
Art, Design
Begin to build the skills and degree-level portfolio you need to apply for our Bachelor of Design (Communication), Bachelor of Design (Fashion) or Bachelor of Visual Arts. Alternatively, this programme will prepare you for a junior role in a creative workplace. Study courses including art and design history, creative methods and visual arts studio, and create your own art and design projects. Many students then move into our New Zealand Certificate in Digital Media and Design (Level 4) or the New Zealand Certificate in Fashion to gain the well-rounded skills you need for degree-level study.

Art, Design
Learn how to be creative using digital tools. Build the skills and portfolio you need to apply for a diploma or degree-level programme. If further study isn't your end goal, this qualification will prepare you for a junior role in a creative workplace. This is also a great qualification to test if the creative industry is right for you as its only a 17 week course.

Design
Prepare for junior roles in the fashion industry assisting with design, styling, retail/merchandising, basic garment construction or for further study in fashion. During this hands-on programme, you’ll learn about fashion industry practice, fashion design and textile concepts, and fashion production. You will leave with a portfolio of work which you can use to apply for our Bachelor of Design (with your chosen electives)
