Complex Care Pathway
This pathway enables Lead Maternity Care and core midwives to extend their theoretical knowledge and technical skill in any area related to complexity within midwifery care.

About the pathway
This specific pathway within the Postgraduate Certificate in Midwifery Practice is completed over one year.
Courses in the pathway:
- MM503610 Midwifery Assessment and Decision Making for Complexity (30 credits)
- MM503620 Midwifery Practicum for Complexity (15 credits)
- One elective course from the postgraduate programme (15 credits)
Apply for funding
The next step for you will be to apply for the Complex Care postgraduate education funding. Health Workforce New Zealand funds the Complex Care pathway for up to 100 hours’ release time for core midwives, or locum cover for LMCs to complete practical placement requirements.
Your funding application is separate from your study application – you need to apply for funding through the New Zealand College of Midwives.
