Bannockburn Road Vineyard
Otago Polytechnic’s Central campus is home to Bannockburn Road Vineyard, where our horticulture students enjoy hands on learning amongst the vines.
The vines that produce our grapes are a proud reflection of many past Central Otago Viticulturists and our vineyard is where the future growers can learn, and nurture more quality grapes to make exceptional wine.
We have both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes in our campus Vineyard, and our wine can be purchased from the campus reception. Our Pinot Noir is lovingly made by the team at Quartz Reef, and our Chardonnay is crafted by Matt Connell wines. (Chardonnay not available until early 2021)
Don’t just take our word on good our wine is – check out Bob Campbell’s review of our Pinot Noir below:
2018 Pinot Noir
Medium depth of colour, ruby. Ripe plum, dark cherry, violet and a hint of wood smoke. Fresh, vibrant Pinot Noir with strong varietal and regional definition. The wine is perfectly balanced with fresh acidity and a backbone of fine tannins. Very impressive and certainly better than I expected.

2019 Pinot Noir
Colour a little lighter than 2018 with a ruby tint. Perhaps a touch lighter than the 2018 with good purity and bright cherry, violet and fresh herb flavours. The balance is good with a nice hint of fruit sweetness on the finish. A delicate and charming wine that I look forward to enjoying with a duck breast that I plan to cook for dinner.
