Cissy was re-evaluating her career options, and found that a future in Tourism was the obvious choice. She had previously worked both as a teacher and in an import and export logistics company in China, before moving to New Zealand with her son five years ago. “Now my son is at University, I still have many years of work ahead of me. I’ve always enjoyed meeting different people and sharing new experiences and so Tourism offers great career possibilities.”
Cissy enrolled for the New Zealand Certificate in Tourism (Level 4) (Operations) and is full of praise for Otago Polytechnic. Study has been a challenge at times, as an international adult student, but Cissy feels very well supported. “The International Office and Student Support have been great,” she says, “and despite my initial concerns I feel that my English is improving every day with the help of my teachers and classmates.”
Dunedin is definitely the best place to study, so far as Cissy is concerned. “I love Dunedin! I am surrounded by nature and it is very peaceful. Everything is close by and very convenient – and I don't spend hours travelling."
Cissy hopes her qualification will give her the edge in a competitive job market. “This programme encourages creativity and critical thinking. I’m looking forward to a bright future after I graduate!”
