I would like to focus on film, editing and animation. I also really enjoy playing with typography and designing it in a way that is engaging and effective.

Otago Polytechnic Design student Kate Weith wants to show the world how awesome her degree is.

Kate, who grew up in Timaru, is in her third and final year of a Bachelor of Design (Communication).

“I chose Communication Design because I want to do the creative things I love but be able to apply myself in a way that has purpose, meaning and impact on the world around me.

“I would like to focus on film, editing and animation. I also really enjoy playing with typography and designing it in a way that is engaging and effective.”

Kate, who is in her third year of a Bachelor of Design (Communication), says her final project involves collaborating with a classmate to create videos and social media branding for the Design Communications department.

“I want to highlight the viability of a degree in Design, focusing on the wide range of career choices and opportunities that are a result of a Design (Communication) degree.

Basically, I just want to show the world how awesome my degree is and the special nature of Otago Polytechnic’s relationships with the Dunedin community.

Kate recently returned from a four-month trip to New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, where she studied Graphic Design.

“I was fortunate to take part in a couple of exhibitions and network with fellow students, with whom I am still in contact.

“I can honestly say that studying abroad was the best decision I have made in my life.”
