Our practical, hands-on programmes can help improve your english, numeracy, computer, study and employment skills – along with a wide range of electives that will help you pursue a career in a number of key industries.

ALL PROGRAMMES

Bridging certificate to beauty therapy

  • Dunedin
  • One semester full-time
  • Level 3
  • Starts February and July, 2018
  • Apply until start date

Gain foundation communication, career and study skills, as well as specific knowledge of human biological science and practical beauty skills. Successful completion of this programme will give you a New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3) and ensure you meet the academic entry requirements for our New Zealand Certificate in Beauty Therapy (Level 4) which is subject to final approval.

Bridging certificate to tourism

  • Dunedin
  • One semester full-time
  • Level 3
  • Starts February, 2019

Don't have the entry requirements for the New Zealand Certificate in Tourism (Level 4) (Operations)? No problem! This bridging certificate will give you a New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3) and ensure you gain the necessary requirements.

Health bridging certificate

  • Dunedin or online with compulsory block courses
  • 1 year full-time; part-time options

  • Starts February and July* (*six-month, full-time option possible for those with advanced standing)

This year-long programme has replaced the Certificate in Health (Level 4). Offered by the School of Social Services, it can help you meet the minimum academic criteria for application to the New Zealand Diploma in Enrolled Nursing (Level 5), New Zealand Diploma in Wellness and Relaxation Massage (Level 5), Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Midwifery, Bachelor of Occupational Therapy, Bachelor of Social Services and Bachelor of Applied Science. It consists of two separate Certificate qualifications - the New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3) and the New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4). You will be enrolled in both of these qualifications at the beginning of the year.

New Zealand Certificate in Animal Care (Level 3) (Companion Animals)

  • Online with 40 hours of compulsory work placement (min.)

Want to have an exciting career working with animals but not sure where to start? Start here! This programme is your first step if you want to enter an animal-related profession and you will learn about the health, welfare, anatomy and physiology of companion animals such as cats and dogs. Successful completion of this qualification will enable you to enter the New Zealand Certificate in Animal Technology (Level 5) (Veterinary Nursing Assistant).

New Zealand Certificate in Arts and Design (Level 4)

  • 6 months full-time; part-time over two years (you will study during semester one in both year one and two)

No matter what direction your creative career takes, you'll benefit from having the ability to learn and apply creative processes, methods and technologies in both art- and design-based studio projects. This programme is great preparation for further study in any creative programme. Successful completion of this Certificate and the New Zealand Certificate in Digital Media and Design (Level 4) will prepare you for application to the Bachelor of Design (Communication, Fashion or Product), Bachelor of Architectural Studies or the Bachelor of Visual Arts.

New Zealand Certificate in Cookery (Level 3)

  • Dunedin or Central Otago
  • 1 semester full-time (Dunedin); 1 day per week for 1 year (Central Otago)
  • Level 3
  • Starts February and July (Dunedin); February (Central)
  • Apply by 30 November and 30 April. Late applications will be accepted based on availability of places.

Learn essential food preparation and cookery techniques and gain valuable commercial and kitchen experience in our training restaurant during this hands-on programme.

New Zealand Certificate in Digital Media and Design (Level 4)

  • Dunedin
  • 6 months full-time; part-time over two years (you will study during semester two in both year one and two)

Project options in digital photography, digital illustration, web design, moving image, animation and interactivity will allow you to develop real-world skills and a portfolio of work for application to higher level study. Successful completion of this Certificate and the New Zealand Certificate in Arts and Design (Level 4) will prepare you for application to the Bachelor of Design (Communication, Fashion or Product), Bachelor of Architectural Studies or Bachelor of Visual Arts.

New Zealand Certificate in Foundation Skills (Level 2)

Get a taste of what tertiary learning is all about and gain essential skills for study and work! Whatever your background, you can start somewhere. This foundation level programme is a great option if you want to re-engage with study and gain confidence and ability in literacy, numeracy and digital competency. You can study in either a general study or work context. The work context includes practical workshops and community based experiences.

New Zealand Certificate in Information Technology Essentials (Level 4)

Gain an in-depth introduction to computing and software. This qualification gives you the foundation you need to enter the Bachelor of Information Technology or other IT programmes.

New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 3)

This programme offers you the chance to improve your study skills and prepare for higher level learning or employment. It includes either a general study context or a work context. Along with improving your reading, writing, presenting and computer skills, you will also gain valuable employability skills such as CV and interview preparation, and how to write a cover letter. Depending on the course you choose, this programme offers practical workshops and community volunteering opportunities.

Bridging certificate to business diploma or degree

Do you want to prepare for further tertiary business studies at diploma or degree level?Then this is the perfect option! Successful completion of this programme will give you the New Zealand Certificate in Study and Career Preparation (Level 4) and will guarantee you entry into the New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 5), New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 5) or the Bachelor of Applied Management.

Love the outdoors and practical work? This 17-week, Dunedin-based scheme for 16-25 year olds is run in partnership with the Malcam Charitable Trust and is a stepping stone into education and employment in the primary sector industry. You will take part in a work placement, improve your study skills, gain an Otago Polytechnic certificate qualification and learn how to put together a great CV!
