Bachelor of Visual Arts

Translate your creativity into a career! A qualification in the Visual Arts will allow you to find employment in an exciting and diverse range of professions such as a practising artist, curator, art educator or researcher. A variety of roles within the digital and film industries would also be possible. *A distance option is available in the second year for those specialising in Photography or Painting. This involves some classes at our Central Otago campus and visits to Dunedin. We are also seeking approval to offer the Year 3 Painting and Photography courses in Central from 2019.

Learn the techniques and skills required to produce memorable and attention-grabbing imagery by specialising in digital imagery and manipulation. This is a great starting point for a photographic career but can also be used as a launch pad into any of the other visually-orientated industries and programmes. Please note: this programme will not run under this name in 2019 (due to a national review of qualifications that NZQA are currently conducting across all tertiary institutions). It will be replaced by the New Zealand Diploma in Digital Media and Design (Level 5)* - more info available soon!

Certificate in Film and Television (Level 4)

Want a career in the film and television industry? Then this is the perfect programme to get you started and can lead to junior positions or further media training programmes. We have strong professional links with TV production companies and use these links to give you real-world practical production experience during this qualification. Please note: this programme will not run under this name in 2019 (due to a national review of qualifications that NZQA are currently conducting across all tertiary institutions). It will be replaced by the New Zealand Diploma in Digital Media and Design (Level 5)*.

Diploma in Digital Photography (Level 6)

Gain the skills, technical knowledge and creative expression you need to become a successful commercial photographer. Part of this qualification includes learning how to build your own website, how to market your photography services online and how to run your own photography business. This programme will not run in 2019 under this name due to a national review of qualifications that NZQA are currently conducting across all tertiary institutions.
