Career opportunities in digital photography include working as a photographer or photographic assistant in commercial studios, newspapers, retail camera companies, processing labs or tourism industry. You could even become self-employed or work in a niche area of photography e.g. weddings.   Lecturers and coordinators

Studio Co-ordinator: Mark Bolland, MA (RCA)
Mark has been teaching Electronic Arts and Photography at Otago Polytechnic since January 2012. He holds an MA from the Royal College of Art, London and has taught photography in the UK and New Zealand. He has written essays for exhibition catalogues, articles for publications such as Art New Zealand and his photographs have appeared in Photoworks, Afterimage and in Critical Dictionary published by Black Dog in 2011.

Lecturer: Rachel Allan, MFA
Rachel was awarded her Master of Fine Arts from Dunedin School of Art in 2013. Within her practice she utilises both traditional chemical photographic techniques and modern interpretations to investigate photography's relationship to memory and personal enquiry. Similarly, she questions our relationship to photographs, both chemical and digital, considering their paradoxical messages.

  Facilities

The photography department is equipped to enable you to explore the photographic in all its forms using darkrooms, large-scale colour inkjet printing, computer labs and a lighting studio. The photography department also offers an alternative processes room with 19th century technologies, a fume cabinet and film processing facilities. 

Also on offer is an equipment store packed with film cameras, digital cameras, lights, tripods and much more. Students are able to check out and borrow this equipment for use on their creative projects. The photography studio discipline also has dedicated technical support staff to assist you with your needs.
