This short course is perfect for learning more about viticulture in New Zealand with a special focus on Central Otago. 

It's ideal if you have a personal interest in viticulture or if you're thinking about entering the industry as a career choice. 

Please note: For this course to run, we need a minimum of 7 people.

Course content

Morning

  • Introduction to viticulture and the history of wine in New Zealand/Central Otago
  • Varieties and growing conditions

Afternoon

  • Viticulture practices:
    • Trellising
    • Planting
    • Canopy management
    • Pests
    • Diseases
    • Weeds
    • Irrigation
    • Soils
    • Harvesting
    • Organics.


Day 2: Dates TBC

Morning

  • Field trip – see Viticulture practices in industry

Afternoon

  • Introduction to winemaking/wine tasting
  • Career opportunities
 What to bring 

Lunch is not provided so we recommend bringing your own lunch or there will be time to pop out to a local café.
