Performance Analysis

 

 

Performance analysis is an exciting new field in high performance sport, and one of the fastest growing professions in sport. Performance analysts work closely with coaches and players helping them prepare for games via training support, performance reviews, opposition scouts, motivational videos and debriefing.

What is performance analysis?

Performance analysis is the process of planning, gathering, organising, analysing and feeding back information related to performance in sport. Our programmes cover:

  • What performance analysis is
  • Work flow, software and hardware systems
  • Data collection and management
  • Problem solving, profiling and information analysis
  • Feeding back findings to players and coaches

Skills you will develop

In our postgraduate programmes in performance analysis you will develop your skills in:

  • Coach and player communication
  • Analysis systems design
  • Video capture and editing
  • Data capture and creating statistics
  • Integrating new sports technologies into trainings and games
  • Data analysis including identifying trends and patterns

Career outcomes

Performance analysis skills are used in many sports around New Zealand and the world, by performance analysts, coaches and data scientists. Some of our recent graduates have gained employment with:

  • All Blacks
  • High Performance Sport NZ (cycling and rowing)
  • The Highlanders
  • Southland, Otago, North Harbour, Counties and New Zealand Rugby Football Union teams
  • Pulse, Stars, Mystics and Southern Steel netball teams

Graduates focused on Performance Analysis will be eligible to be accredited by the International Society of Performance Analysis of Sport.
