Product Design is everywhere. It’s exciting, creative and ever-changing. Every product you use has been designed, from your toothbrush to your tablet. Study Product Design at Otago Polytechnic and you’ll learn how to design objects and systems to improve the way we live.

Prepare for a junior-level role in a creative workplace or use this qualification to build a portfolio and get entry into a higher level creative. Design

During this hands-on programme, you’ll learn how to approach the design of products, services and systems keeping human needs, use, and sustainability as your core focus. You’ll design, build and test prototypes to understand concepts and to gain skills in conceptualisation, drawing, modelmaking, Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, graphic design and production methods. You will graduate well-equipped for the workforce, with transferable skills in project management, communication, marketing and idea generation.

Design

If you are looking to achieve an applied qualification in a specialist area to complement your existing design degree or experience, you can opt for this programme and specialise in either Communications, Fashion or Product Design. This diploma will help you gain an understanding of the professional and strategic requirements of your industry, and to extend your professional research techniques. The skills you develop will then be applied to your selected area-specific courses and showcased in your final project.
