Stonemasonry

Stonemasons work with stone to clad or restore buildings, construct walls, and lay paving.  At Otago Polytechnic, you’ll learn to build, design, and construct stone features using unique Central Otago schist and other natural materials. We offer the only full-time programme of its kind in New Zealand and can help you become a specialist in this field.

Based at our Cromwell Campus, you’ll gain advanced knowledge in stone architecture and design, understand how to work with various types of stone and be introduced to many traditional and modern stonework styles.

Through extensive practical learning and work experience, you will develop craft skills and stone laying techniques. With so many job opportunities in stonemasonry, you could find yourself working on a variety of projects around the region or the globe as a specialist in your field.
