Then the tourism industry could be for you and this hands-on programme is the perfect first step to discovering that. You'll gain a great understanding of the tourism and travel industry whilst developing your study skills and getting a taste of what studying at a Polytechnic is all about. Graduates will be able to work in a variety of roles in the tourism industry or may choose to continue with study. By successfully completing this programme, you will have guaranteed entry* into the New Zealand Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 5), New Zealand Diploma in Business (Level 5) and Bachelor of Applied Management (*as long as you meet the stated English Language requirement).

Keen to hold supervisory positions in the tourism and travel industry? Then this is the qualification for you! Learn how to effectively implement processes that actively support and enhance the visitor experience and evaluate local, national and international tourism operating environments. A fieldtrip to a tourist region, guest speakers and local tourism enterprise visits will help to build knowledge and connect theory and practice.

Bachelor of Applied Management

This programme has industry experiences at its centre with case studies and workplace-based or focused assignments. The practical learning doesn’t stop there as you’ll also complete an internship during your third year. This internship will place you within a real-world business where you’ll need to complete a research project as part of your time with the organisation. A Capable NZ option is available for those with relevant work experience and in Dunedin you can specialise in up to two majors from your second year.
